Personal Customer Service in retail-is it gone for good?

When I was all of 16, I knew I liked clothing and looking nice. I saved my money from working three jobs (mowing lawns, teaching swimming lessons, and answering phones for a secretary at a company who liked leaving at 3pm on some days). I would go each weekend and look through the designer items at J.L. Hudson Company (Hudson's to most) and try to find the nicest things I could find marked way down so I could buy them and wear them to school. And I looked at high end-Channel, Adrienne Vitadini, and the good Ralph Lauren (not the stuff with the horses on it!) I usually came back empty handed but not for lack of trying.
But, what I remember most about these experiences is that the ladies who worked the departments I strolled through actually helped me. They asked me if they could not only take the clothing back to the dressing rooms for me to try on, but they would also point out other items that they thought would work on me or would work well with a piece that I had selected. And, believe it or not, I received a hand-written note from the saleswoman sometimes a week or so after making my purchase. I remember being truly impressed. When was the last time you got a handwritten note from a mainstream retailer?
In this day of instant communication, smart phones and e-commerce, I cannot be alone in being dismayed at how far away we have drifted from the customer service of the past. Customers deserve better.
Have you ever entered a mainstream retailer to be approached by a young person giving you their pre-canned spiel (“Hi! I am Courtney! Are you finding everything all right? Is there anything I can help you with? Let me know if you need me to open a dressing room.”) and then off they run to the next customer or to ring up items at the front counter. And when you do need them, you are left stranded looking for someone to help.
At Keyden Grace it is our mission to help you look and feel your best. Every. Single. Day. We want to help pull together the entire you. Not just sell you some jeans.
