Let it shine!

One of the best decisions I made this year (not the best...I will share that with you later) was to change my hair routine.
First, the stats: I have straight hair (or I used to have straight hair) and I am lightly graying in patches. I wear it shoulder length and usually utilize a paddle brush and flat iron when I style it. For the past 6 years I have dutifully colored and cut my hair every 5 weeks. If I wait 6 weeks it's over. I shouldn't even be allowed to leave the house. So, 5 weeks is the target. It is wavy now, and when there is any moisture in the air (and where I live there is always moisture in the air) I resemble Rosana Rosana Dana.
So, each day I would leave the house for my former job, and when it got to be about 2pm, I would look and the mirror at work and all the effort I had put in that morning to keep my tresses tamed was for naught. I was embarrassed how I looked. Thank goodness I was working in a cubicle, way in the back of a large office floor, where no one could see me. I just stayed there as much as I could. No lipstick in the world could save me at that point. (If you follow us on social media, you will get the reference.)
So in October, I met Roz and Austin. They explained what products I really needed to get my hair in place, with shine and most of all…NO FRIZZ! They also explained how to style my hair to get the most benefit of the products I have put on. Well, all I can say is: while the country was in the middle of angst and turmoil over who would be our next president, I had found an inner calm and peace. It was that revolutionary.
First, you need to use a shampoo and conditioner designed to combat frizz. I recommend the Grown Alchemist Anti-Frizz Twin Set. Grown Alchemist is an Austrialian skin care line that uses all organic ingredients. The main ingredient in the shampoo is Shorea Robusta which is rich in flavonoids which smooths the hair cuticle to prevent frizz and reduce curl. The conditioner utilizes Abyssinian oil which strengthens and smooths the hair to reduce flyaways.
Next, you need to use a Smoother and Straightener. This is a product you leave on after your done washing and conditioning your hair. Grown Alchemist also makes a Smoothing Hair Treatment. Hydrolyzed milk protein rich in glutamic and proline amino acids noticeably increase styling manageability, while protecting the hair from chemical, uv and heat stress leaving hair looking soft and smooth. Cationic guar gum contains positively charged polysaccharides that smooth and detangle hair without build up, leaving hair soft, straightened and with increased manageability.
Lastly, you need oil. I was so worried this would be too heavy on my hair and it would look greasy. But that was not the case at all. Put the oil on after the smoothing treatment. I recommend Sachajuan Intensive Hair Oil. You are only going to use a little bit, like the size of a dime. This jar will last you quite a few months.
Finally, the styling tip: that paddle brush in your drawer is key. If you don’t’ have one, pick one up today. Start by drying your hair as you normally would to get the initial moisture reduced. Then, use the brush to stretch the hair. Dry it in different directions back and forth, over the top of the head in directions you would never think to brush it. Do this over and over until your hair is dry. That stretching in addition to the product adds the extra “tweak” you need to keep it in place all day. Finish off the look with your flat iron and curl as you wish.
